A taste of what’s in store for the Far North mountain goats.

Justin Cole
Over the past year, we’ve run dozens of races, climbed countless mountains, and traveled just about every trail we could find. But none of those challenges was as tough as choosing the 2014 Far North Mountain Goat. When we put out the call for a runner to take on the USATF-New England Mountain Running Circuit, we had no idea how many of you would be brave (crazy?) enough to want to not just run these races, but also share your tales of adventure with the world. After much careful consideration, we simply could not choose a mountain goat. Instead, we chose two.

This summer, Justin Cole and Emily Meehan will be the Far North Mountain Goats. Justin, a recent transplant from the South, wooed us with sincerity, telling of his days as a walk-on to his college cross-country team and his enthusiasm for exploring the mountains of New England. Emily, a mother of four, made us laugh, then smile, then tear up a little with her story of finding her way into a running group for beginners. She nearly ran for the car when she was supposed to head to her first starting line, but instead she stuck it out and earned her trail running credentials with a finish at last year’s Vulcan’s Fury.
We can’t wait to read about the adventures these two have this summer and to share them all with you.
